Barnes' Grocery and Market moved into the building in the late 1950s and maintained business there until at least the mid-1970s.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the by-then roofless building was used as a courtyard by the owners of Burney's Buds and Bloomers, a flower shop in an adjacent building. The mural on the left wall in the 2010 pictures was painted during that time.

My brother, John Robert McCrory worked at Barnes Grocery after school, Saturday's and in the summer from about age 12 to 18 in 1972.
Cannot get the video to open. Was this store also refered to as the Yellow Front Store at one time. My dad, Alto Smith, worked there during high school.
@Trish, thanks! I ran into your brother at the bank this past Christmas Eve, and he seemed to remember quite a bit about "old Frisco City"! I hope I can talk with him again, maybe for an addition to the site? It seems like lots of local kids worked at the grocery stores (and other places) downtown.
@Troy, I'm sorry about the video. Can you open any others on the site? If this one continues to be a problem, I can look up the host link for it and send it to you if you're still interested in seeing it.
Also, I'm (hopefully) attaching a link to a 1956 FCHS yearbook photo (sorry for the poor image quality) of downtown that places the Yellow Front Store in the Liles building, up by People's Bank. That's the only location I've found it.

I think prior to being Barnes Grocery, this page's building may have housed the REA (Southern Pine). When I get back to do some more research this summer, the first thing I'll do is look at tax records to see exactly what businesses were where, and when. Daunting task, but thanks for your interest in the site, and for the info about your dad. I'll continue updating the site, so keep visiting!

I finally got them to work, Thanks! I found a picture of the old Yellow Front Store while looking at the Western Auto pictures. It was right next door and between the Western Auto and Roy Hardware.
